From Late-Night Tears to Teddy Bear Hugs: Why I Started Goodlifebean

There’s something strangely comforting about a plushie. It doesn’t talk, it doesn’t judge, and it certainly doesn’t care that you’re wearing the same hoodie for the third day in a row. It’s just there — soft, snuggly, and always ready to hold space for your heavy heart.

But for me, plushies became something more than comfort.

They became survival.

The Night It All Hit Me

I was 23, living alone, and dealing with what felt like a never-ending loop of stress, burnout, and anxiety. Between a toxic job and an even worse breakup, my apartment felt more like a pressure cooker than a home.

One night, I found myself curled up on the floor crying (yep, real movie-meltdown vibes). I randomly picked up this old stuffed animal my grandma had gifted me as a kid. It smelled like home. Like safety. I hugged it tighter than I’d ever admit to a therapist and — for the first time in weeks — I breathed.

That’s when it hit me:
We never really stop needing comfort. We just forget how to ask for it.

That One Hug Sparked a Brand

I didn’t plan to start a business. I just wanted a giant plushie that didn’t look like it belonged in a toddler’s toy box — something cozy, aesthetic, and emotionally supportive. Spoiler: It didn’t exist. So I designed my own.

Goodlifebean started in a tiny bedroom, with doodles on napkins, a Pinterest board called “Cuddles That Heal,” and one massive teddy bear prototype that barely fit through the door. Fast forward 5 years, and we’ve hand-designed over 900+ plushies, written 300+ heartfelt blogs, and become the go-to plushie brand for adults who just need a dang hug.
